EmergingMed is a confidential, secure, and free service to help you find and gain access to clinical trials that are testing new therapies for cancer. A single short, anonymous questionnaire – easily answered by patients and family members – is compared against the enrollment criteria for ALL of the clinical trials in the EmergingMed database in seconds. The resulting short list of clinical trials you might be eligible for can be printed out and discussed with your doctor. When you decide which of those trials are worth looking into further, let us know and we will help you contact the right person at the location where the trial is being administered

Cancer Advisors

Cancer Advisors performs clinical trial research for patients. Patients can rely on the expertise of a full-time Cancer Advisors oncologist to determine clinical trials for their condition. Our oncologists are unbiased and may therefore recommend any available clinical trial. We remove the confusion for patients and the daunting task of finding appropriate clinical trials.

This company was started by survivors who were simply overwhelmed by databases and needed an oncologist to go through all of the available trials and choose their best options. We offer this service at a very affordable price ($400). In fact, it costs us more to do the research than $400. (No management person gets paid, only the docs are paid) However, we want to make the service affordable and believe that it is crucial in an age were there are so many options and so little guidance. If a patient can not afford the service we do it for free!

Welcome to the NCI Cancer Research Portfolio Web site. This Web site provides a structure for searching, organizing, and analyzing research supported by the National Cancer Institute by organ/cancer site and/or by broad area of scientific interest. The areas of scientific interest are identified in the Common Scientific Outline (CSO), a classification system created to provide a common approach to comparing and assessing cancer research supported by different funding organizations

Sanofi-Synthelabo submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) for oxaliplatin in combination with 5-fluorouracil/leucovorin (5-FU/LV) for the first line treatment of advanced colorectal cancer in July 1999 to the FDA, which was based on European studies designed for acceptable endpoints for approval in Europe. FDA determined that the NDA met the requirements to be accepted for review and upon completion of their review held an Oncology Drug Advisory Committee Meeting to discuss the dossier. At the advisory committee meeting, it was determined that the dossier did not meet the U.S. requirements for approval for a first-line indication, which requires two adequate and well-controlled studies with a primary endpoint of overall survival. Sanofi-Synthelabo's NDA consisted primarily of two Phase III studies, of which neither had overall survival as a primary pre-specified endpoint. The committee and FDA acknowledged that oxaliplatin had activity in colorectal cancer, but based on data from other products to date were not willing to change the U.S. requirements to an alternative endpoint to support approval in this stage of the disease. Sanofi-Synthelabo remains committed to the continued development and registration of oxaliplatin in the United States for the treatment of colorectal cancer and other tumors. After several meetings with the FDA and NCI representatives, the registration studies for second- and third-line treatment of colorectal cancer have been initiated. These stages of disease were selected because they represent an unmet medical need. Thereby, minimizing the number of patients needed to evaluate an earlier endpoint of response, and based on FDA regulations, these unmet medical need stages will allow accelerated review and approval.

Cancer clinical trials are controlled studies of people with cancer which are crucial to the development of new and better treatments. Clinical trials answer specific questions about a new treatment or a new way of using existing treatments. Often randomised clinical trials compare the best known standard therapy with a newer therapy to see if one produces more cures and causes fewer side effects than the other

In cancer research, a clinical trial is an organized study conducted in people with cancer to answer specific questions about a new treatment or a new way of using a known treatment. Each study tries to increase medical knowledge and to find new and better ways to help cancer patients. Besides studying new anticancer drugs, clinical trials study new combinations of drugs already used in cancer treatment, new ways of giving treatment, and how changes in lifestyle can help cancer patients or prevent cancer from occurring. Other clinical trials compare the best known standard therapy with a newer therapy to see if one produces more cures and causes fewer side effects than the other

The development of more effective cancer treatments requires that the therapy be evaluated with cancer patients. These tests are carefully monitored, evaluated and scrutinized by the physicians and researchers involved with the treatment. Each clinical trial is designed to find new or better ways to treat cancer patients. Clinical trials involving cancer are divided into four phases. Each phase is designed to determine specific information about the potential new treatment such as its risks, safety and effectiveness compared to standard therapy with the hope that the new therapy will be an improvement over the previous standard therapy or the addition to standard therapy for improved results

The Johns Hopkins Oncology Center has a rich history in clinical research including bone marrow transplantation, experimental pharmacology, cancer vaccine therapy and genetic testing as a result of the collaboration and integration of basic science and clinical research. Such an effort enables us to offer our patients some of the most novel and promising therapies
